While anti-Black racism has been with us for centuries, in 2020, a large portion of the world was reawakened to the systemic injustices that our friends, colleagues, neighbors, and fellow human beings are subject to on a daily basis. Many of us have spent the last few years working to pull the wool from our eyes to learn, unlearn, and take action. With the recent increase in threats and continued harm to the Black community and our campus, we cannot slow down or stop our continued efforts to dismantle the biases and injustices that continue to be perpetuated. On March 22nd, the University of Utah will hold a Day of Collective Action, which will continue the work towards creating an inclusive environment on our campus. Programming throughout the day will be available for all of us to participate in the difficult but necessary work of reflecting on our complicity in these systems and how to change that role to one of being an active ally with the individuals and communities that have been and continue to be marginalized. If your department or team will be holding a Collective Day of Action event of any kind, we ask that you submit it to the Presidential Commission on Equity & Belonging page (event submission at the bottom), so that others across your college, school, and the University are aware and can attend.
