NIH Cap Change and NRSA Stipend Updates

NIH Salary Cap increases to $197,300 effective January 5, 2020

Effective January 5, 2020, the salary limitation for Executive Level II was increased to $197,300.  NIH formally adopted the increase under Notice NOT-HS-20-065 released on February 5, 2020 at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-065.html.  Faculty submitting grants to NIH should use the new cap when creating their budgets.  Faculty with currently awarded grants can discuss implementing the new cap with their department administrators.

NIH releases updated FY20 NRSA Stipend and Tuition Level increases

NIH released an update regarding NRSA Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Stipends for NIH Fiscal Year 2020 (October 1, 2019-September 30, 2020).  Therefore, this increase will impact trainees appointed to NRSA awards issued on or after October 1, 2019.  Refer to your latest NOA (Section IV) and xTrain to determine the appropriate stipend level for your trainee(s).  Details can be found at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-070.html. Since a majority of the University’s T32 grants are renewed on July 1st of each year, this update may not impact your current trainee appointments.
