GMaP Grant
Building on our commitment to reduce cancer health disparities in the Mountain West, Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) received funding to aid in the development of researchers who specialize in cancer health disparities. The Geographical Management of Cancer Health Disparities (GMaP) program at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) ran for eight years ending in 2023.
The GMaP grant supported researchers in the following ways:
- Virtual engagement and mentorship
- Interactive distance education and mentoring approaches
- Traditional face-to-face mentorship and support
GMaP Objectives
- Advance the science of cancer health disparities research
- Promote the development of the next generation of underrepresented cancer and cancer health disparities researchers
- Contribute to measurable reductions in cancer health disparities in this region
GMaP Outcomes
In support of the GMaP objectives, GMaP Region 6 awarded 120 travel awards and 18 pilot research grants totaling over $560,000 in funding support to investigators and trainees from all seven states in our region (ID, MT, NV, ND, SD, UT, and WY).
Resources
While GMaP is no longer providing training or funding opportunities, there are many resources available for professional development.
