Eid Mubarak! University of Utah Health Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion would like to wish you a happy, healthy and joyous days of Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha, “Festival of Sacrifice” in Arabic or “the Greater Eid,” is the culmination of Hajj (“Pilgrimage to Makkah”) and the second of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world. This year, Eid al-Adha begins on the tenth of Dhul Hijjah of the Islamic Center (the twelfth month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar) which coincides with Saturday, July 9, 2022 and continues with three days of celebration.
Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha by gathering for special prayers, visiting family and friends, giving each other gifts and participating in charities. Additionally, families may participate in a ritual animal sacrifice (camel, goat, sheep or cow) followed by sharing the offering amongst themselves, neighbors, friends and those in need – hence the name, “Festival of Sacrifice.”
May this Eid fill your home and community with warmth and peace.
