David Classen, MD, a University of Utah research professor in epidemiology has been appointed to the Defense Health Board (DHB). This appointment came to Classen in December from Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

The DHB is a Federal Advisory Committee that provides independent advice and recommendations to maximize the safety and quality of accessible health care for Department of Defense (DoD) health care beneficiaries.

It is expected that Classen will serve a four-year term. The DHB focuses on DoD healthcare policies and program management, as well as research programs and providing requirements for treating and preventing diseases and injuries.

Ultimately, it is the mission of the DHB “to provide independent authoritative advice to maximize the health, safety, and effectiveness of the United States Armed Forces.”

We would like to congratulate Dr. Classen on this appointment and wish him luck as he continues his valuable work at the U of U and serves on the DHB.
