We are pleased to share that the state of Utah approved a $500,000 annual, ongoing appropriation to support diabetes prevention and management through the University of Utah’s Driving Out Diabetes, A Larry H. Miller Family Wellness Initiative.
Driving Out Diabetes aims to reduce the burden of diabetes in Utah and the surrounding area through community outreach and education, innovations in clinical care, and scientific discovery.
Often the gap between research and the community impact can be a difficult one to bridge, but the Driving Out Diabetes Initiative provides an opportunity to do so. There are tremendous strides being made in basic science research, which reveals increasingly more about diabetes and metabolism. These revelations are made more salient and impactful when the community is connected to education and clinical care
“We are thrilled that the state of Utah is joining us in this effort to empower Utahns with the information and access they need to prevent or better manage their diabetes,” says Angela Fagerlin, PhD, Director of the Driving Out Diabetes initiative, and Chair of the Department of Population Health Sciences. “These programs are making a difference in the lives of Utahns across the state, and this funding will ensure that our impact will only deepen in the years to come.”
