Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Postdoctoral Enrichment Program

Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Postdoctoral Enrichment Program
Award Amount:
Up to $60,000 over three years
Application Due Date:
January 15, 2020

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund works to advance the biomedical sciences by supporting research and other scientific and educational activities.

To that end, BWF is inviting applications for its Postdoctoral Enrichment Program. Through the program, grants of $60,000 over three years will be awarded in support of career development activities for underrepresented minority postdoctoral fellows in a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada whose training and professional development are guided by mentors committed to helping them advance in biomedical or medical research. Up to twelve awards are granted annually.

In year one, $20,000 will be granted to support enrichment activities for the postdoctoral fellow ($10,000 for research supplies or equipment uniquely required to enhance the postdoctoral fellow’s research and $10,000 for education and training, including for mentors in the research lab where the postdoctoral fellow is assigned). Funds will be allocated in a similar fashion in year two. In year three, $20,000 will be granted to help the postdoctoral fellow advance his/her research efforts toward the professoriate and must be used to develop independent, innovative areas of research.

To be eligible, applicants must be a minority postdoctoral fellow conducting biomedical or medical research. Applicants with MD degrees who have secured a postdoctoral research appointment beyond the clinic will be considered.
