The American Association of University Women invites applications for its American Fellowships program, which will provide grants in support of women scholars who are working on completing dissertations, conducting postdoctoral research full time, or preparing research for publication for eight consecutive weeks. American Fellowships are open to women scholars in all fields of study, and three categories of awards are supported through the program.
American Dissertation Fellowships: Grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to offset a scholar’s living expenses while she completes her dissertation. The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. Applicants must have completed all course work, passed all preliminary exams, and had the dissertation research proposal or plan approved by the preceding November. While open to applicants in all fields of study, scholars interested in science, technology, engineering, and math or researching gender issues are encouraged to apply.
American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowships: The program seeks to increase the number of women in tenure-track faculty positions and to promote equity for women in higher education. Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to help scholars obtain tenure and other promotions by enabling them to spend a year pursuing independent research. Tenured professors are not eligible. Open to applicants in all fields of study. Scholars engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math fields or those researching gender issues are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold a PhD, EdD, DBA, MFA, JD, MD, DMD, DVM, DSW, or MPH at the time of application.
American Short-Term Research Publication Grants: Grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded to scholars to prepare research for publication. Preference will be given to applicants whose work supports the vision of AAUW: to break through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance. These fellowships can be awarded to tenure-track, part-time faculty, and new and established researchers. The fellowships are designed to assist the candidate in obtaining tenure and promotions. Tenured professors are not eligible. Open to applicants in all fields of study. Scholars engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math fields or those researching gender issues are especially encouraged to apply.
