Additional Information -
Health Policy Research Scholars is a leadership opportunity for doctoral students from historically marginalized backgrounds and underrepresented populations across a wide range of disciplines—from economics to political science—who want to apply their research to inform and influence policy in ways that advance health equity. The program is designed to support full-time, second-year doctoral students in building the skills, tools, and networks they need to create lasting change.

Over the course of the program, scholars will:

  • Participate in policy and leadership development trainings and coursework via online seminars and courses.
  • Receive an annual award of up to $30,000 for up to four years or until they complete their doctoral program (whichever is sooner).
  • Receive training in health equity, the policy process, leadership, communication, implementation, and dissemination.
  • Continue learning and working from their home institutions.
  • Establish and strengthen professional ties to public health and policy leaders.
  • Be eligible for a competitive dissertation grant of up to $10,000.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Full-time doctoral students entering the second year of their doctoral program in fall 2022.
  • From a historically marginalized background and/or a population underrepresented in their doctoral discipline.
  • Pursuing a research-focused discipline in nearly any academic field.
  • Interested in applying research to inform and influence policy in ways that advance health equity.

Participants receive financial support and do not need to relocate.
