The SVPHS Research Unit is proud to join in celebrating Sara Salmon, Academic Program Manager, for being among the nominees for the University of Utah Health Staff Excellence Awards.

Sarah Sherer, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Rick Smith, Senior Director, Human Resource Management at University of Utah Health Human wrote in announcing the nominations, “Amazing work has been done across the health system this past year. Each year leaders and peers have the chance to nominate full-time staff who go above and beyond.” Sara Salmon certainly exemplifies this above and beyond quality.

There are a total of 15 nominees from the two districts within University of Utah Health—10 from Hospitals and Clinics and 5 from Health Academics. Sara Salmon is one of the district winners from Health Academics. As part of this cohort of 15 University of Utah Health nominees, she will be considered for the eventual 8 university-wide awards.

Sara works to support programmatic efforts of two cross-institutional initiatives, the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center (DMRC) and the Driving Out Diabetes Initiative (DODI), and during this past year she supported the institutional COVID-19 Research Response as well.

In two and a half years in her role, Sara has done tremendous work in facilitating the growth and advancement of the DMRC and DODI. Her work has had a concrete impact in a variety of ways, and was recently demonstrated as she worked with key administrators to secure a $500K ongoing appropriation from the Utah state legislature for DODI.

Bridget Hughes, Director of Research Program Development in the SVPHS Research Unit wrote glowingly of Sara in noting that Sara not only has done her job with excellence, but has indeed gone above and beyond in the midst of the pandemic:

“In addition to her work with DODI and the DMRC, this year she jumped at the opportunity to contribute to the COVID-19 Research Response that was orchestrated through our office by the Immunology, Inflammation, and Infectious Diseases Initiative (3i). Together with Nicole Frank, Sara developed and executed a series of strategic research activities, communications, events and programs to engage diverse faculty across our campus in COVID-19 research.”

It goes without question, the SVPHS Research Unit and University of Utah Health benefit greatly from having Sara Salmon working with us.
