Application Due Date: April 30, 2021 (5PM) We are pleased to announce the sixth annual Hatch Family Scholar Award Competition for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Utah. The purpose of this award is to honor the Hatch family by rewarding a junior research scientist that is conducting research in the field of Type 1 Diabetes. A minimum prize of $1000 will be awarded. Prizes are subject to federal tax regulations. Eligibility criteria: This award is intended to recognize an outstanding research trainee (registered as a doctoral student or postdoctoral fellow) at the University of Utah. Students and postdocs may be from any department across the University of Utah campus whose research encompasses Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic complications. Priority will be given to trainees whose research is targeted at finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Applicants are required to submit a recommendation letter from their faculty supervisor. Multiple entries per lab are permitted. The Paul Shurtleff Hatch and Heidi Hatch Ford Scholar Award for Type 1 Diabetes Research
Applications must include:
Metabolism Research Center faculty member and two members of the Hatch Family. The lay
abstract will be critical for the family member to understand the applicant’s contribution to the
Type 1 Diabetes field. Selection of recipient(s) will be based on research portfolio, interest in
pursuing a career in diabetes research, and potential as a research investigator.
