Award Amount: Up to $2,582,200 Wellcome and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) have issued a call for proposals aimed at strengthening the evidence base for the prevention and control of coronavirus (COVID-19). Wellcome: COVID-19 Epidemic Preparedness
Application Due Date: December 31, 2020
The awards are open to individuals or teams of up to five members. Teams can be based anywhere in the world (apart from mainland China). Wellcome encourages applications from lead applicants based in low- and middle-income countries.
Examples of research areas of interest to Wellcome and DFID include but are not limited to clinical research (understanding the natural history of the disease, optimizing clinical management, or population cohort studies); treatments (supportive and specific); pathogenesis; epidemiology; and social sciences and ethics.
Proposals that address vaccine development will not be considered.
Wellcome and DFID will review proposals of interest periodically and may adjust the focus of this call.
Under this call, Wellcome and DFID will provide flexible funding of up to £2 million, with awards lasting up to two years.
To be eligible for an award, applicants must be based at an academic research organization, a not-for-profit or government body, or a private-sector organization and must be able to accept Wellcome and DFID's standard grant conditions.
