In 42 years at U of U Health, Professor John Zone, MD, has been a major force behind successful structures, organizations, and processes at the School of Medicine. Stepping down as chair of the dermatology department, he will still treat patients and continue research in the laboratory he founded.

VA Honor for Professor Matthew Samore, MD

Matthew Samore, MD, an H.A. and Edna Benning Presidential Professor of Medicine has received the highest honor for a Department of Veterans Affairs health researcher: 2019 Under Secretary's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Services Research. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Samore has conducted infectious disease research to determine the true rate of COVID-19 infection in Utah.

COVID-19 Weekly Update, August 11, 2020

Coming together as a community, it appears we are successfully slowing the spread of coronavirus in our state. The number of Utahns infected with coronavirus continues to fall and the number of citizens with coronavirus being admitted to the hospital appears to be stabilizing. We continue to learn to live with coronavirus until science brings us a vaccine.

We share cautious optimism that the impact of our own individual behaviors—masking, social distance, hygiene, and staying home when sick—appear to be positively impacting Utah’s coronavirus trends. Positive cases, positivity rates and hospitalizations continue to decline across the state, though we need to remain vigilant in our efforts.
