Celebrating Success: Match Day 2025

Every March, medical schools across the country gather for one of the most anticipated milestones in a physician’s journey—Match Day. It’s an emotional, exhilarating, and unforgettable moment when graduating medical students learn where they will continue their training and begin the next chapter of their careers.

Top in the Nation

At the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, Match Day is a testament to the talent, resilience, and readiness of our students and the strength of our academic community.

I am thrilled to share the outstanding results of our 2025 Match. This year, 128 students from our graduating class participated in the match process. They achieved an impressive 98.4% match rate—one of the highest in the country and well above the national average.

Our students matched into 22 specialties at top-tier programs across the country, including prestigious institutions like Stanford, University of California San Francisco, Mayo Clinic, and Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as highly competitive programs here at the University of Utah.

Even more meaningful is the number of students who matched into primary care specialties—42% of our class—reflecting our school’s commitment to addressing critical workforce needs in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Additionally, more than one-third of our graduates will remain in Utah for their training. They will strengthen the future of health care in our state and ensure our communities—urban and rural alike—are cared for by talented, compassionate physicians.

An Investment for the Future

Match Day reminds us that our mission is about more than educating. It’s also about  empowering. We invest in our students through innovative curriculum, personalized advising, and a culture of well-being. This helps them to match and, more importantly, it sets them up to thrive.

As dean of student affairs, I’m constantly inspired by our students’ drive to serve, lead, and heal. The 2025 Match is proof that our school is doing more than preparing doctors: We’re shaping the future of medicine.

Congratulations, Class of 2025!

To our students: Your hard work has paid off. To our faculty and staff: Thank you for guiding them. And to our communities: The future of health care is bright.
