Recent University of Utah Health graduate Megan Okada, PhD, has been selected for a Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award to recognize outstanding achievement in Graduate Studies. The award was given to 12 students from a pool of international candidates.
In her PhD thesis, Okada discovered a potential therapeutic target for malaria based on an understanding of metabolic functions in the parasite that causes the disease. Her research was carried out under the mentorship of Paul Sigala, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry.
Okada will be participating in a one-day scientific symposium honoring Hal Weintraub and his commitment to innovative science. The annual Weintraub Award Symposium will be held Friday May 5, 2023 at Fred Hutch's lakeside Robert W. Day Campus.
