At University of Utah Health, we believe that diversity in thought and lived experience is critical for asking the right questions and arriving at novel solutions. We support a number of programs that are centered on inclusion and that strive to create equitable opportunities for all.
The Graduate School Diversity Office
The Graduate School Diversity Office partners with graduate academic departments to create a campus climate that accommodates all members of the graduate community. Their website provides many resources for diverse graduate students.
LGBTQ+ STEM Interest Group
A group interested in furthering the access of LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and research in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
African American Doctoral Scholars Initiative
The African American Doctoral Scholars Initiative provides a scholarly community and educational services for African American doctoral students at the University of Utah.
Diversity Fellows Program
This program supports people in groups that are historically excluded from STEM to prepare applications to any biology graduate program.
Diversity-Oriented Training Programs
The Senior Vice President for Health Sciences Research Unit puts tremendous effort into supporting health sciences research training. They emphasize programs aimed at enhancing diversity in biomedical science and provide support in applying for training grants.
Black Faculty and Staff Association
The Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) advocates for progress through the promotion of critical dialogue, networking, recruitment and retention, professional development, mentoring, and cultural programs that emphasize traditions of the African and African diasporic communities.
Presidential Commission on the Status of Women
The commission provides leadership and expertise to the University of Utah community in promoting University women in their various roles and activities, and to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas within the University.
Anti-Racism Committee
The Anti-Racism Committee advises the Steering Committee on the overall campus climate regarding issues and events of racism across all intersections of identity and bias. Additionally, they recommend and evaluate measures to ensure that every student, faculty, and staff enjoys an environment free of racism and hate.
Utah Health Equity Leadership and Mentoring (U-HELM) Program
U-HELM provides mentoring and leadership development opportunities to junior faculty members and postdoctoral scholars from underrepresented populations in the health sciences or involved in health equity research and practice.
Utah Caregiver Assistance for Researchers in Early Stages (U-CARES)
Junior faculty in the School of Medicine whose research has been impacted by caregiving responsibilities during COVID-19 can apply for up to $50,000 to move their research forward.
Office of VPR ONEU Programs in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
The VPR Office has launched two programs will the goals of providing an equitable, supportive, and inclusive environment for researchers at the U of U, and to make the research enterprise accessible to Utah residents of all backgrounds.
Office of Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OHEDI)
OHEDI’s mission is to create an environment of inclusion and respect, actively recruit, and fully foster the development of a physician and scientist workforce that reflects the diversity of the community.
Office of the Vice President for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) serves across the entire university system and leads this work for the University. The division includes resource centers and affinity groups.
American Indian Resource Center (AIRC)
The goals of the AIRC are to increase the recruitment, retention, cultural and historical competency, and public education of American Indians at the University of Utah and in the community.
Black Cultural Center (BCC)
The BCC seeks to holistically enrich, support, and advocate for faculty, staff, and students through Black-centered research, culturally affirming educational initiatives, and service.
U of U Center for Disability and Access
The Center for Disability & Access evaluates disability documentation, determines eligibility, and implements reasonable accommodations for enrolled students.
Center for Equity and Student Belonging (CESB)
CESB creates community and advocates for academic success and belonging for students across inter-sectional identities and experiences among students who are underrepresented minorities, multiracial, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse and disabled students of color.
LGBT Resource Center (LGBT RC)
LGBT RC supports the success of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual/aromantic (LGBTQIA+) students as well as providing educational and cultural events for the entire campus.
Office for Inclusive Excellence
The Office for Inclusive Excellence provides professional development and education opportunities to achieve diversity and inclusion goals and outcomes to reinforce the university’s strategic plan.
Dream Center
The Dream Center works holistically with undocumented students and mixed-status families. They engage in outreach, provide advising and scholarship support and promotes advocacy.
