VPCAT Grant Editing and/or Formatting Review Opportunity (GEFRO)

The What

The VPCAT Grant Editing and/or Formatting Review Opportunity (GEFRO) offers both alumni and current scholars:

  1. Up to 1-2 days (8-16 hours) of dedicated review time from a senior research manager with over 23 years of experience reviewing, editing, and submitting multiple grant applications from a multitude of agencies and foundations.
  2. Feedback on continuity, readability, and thematic presentation of application’s structure.
  3. Contextual tips and tricks to enhance grantsmanship in real time.

The Why

Investigators who incorporate rigorous grant review prior to the submission of a proposal are more likely to:

  1. Understand what and how to address questions and concerns of the agency prior to submission.
  2. Enhance the quality of their research proposals.
  3. Understand the grant writing process and requirements.
  4. Take part in cultivating a collegial and collaborative culture.

The Schedule

The following VPCAT GEFRO schedule parallels the National Institutes of Health (NIH) standard due dates. Keep in mind that a] reservations are based on a first-come, first-served basis and b] during high-demand cycles, priority is given to current scholars.

The How

Upon receipt of an email announcing the cycle is open for reservation, a scholar must complete these 3 steps:

  1. Click and complete the provided Xoyondo poll. [a) Select any dates that meet your timeline to give me scheduling options, and b) Based on your selections, I will schedule CURRENT scholars for up to 2 days [a day equates to 8 hours] and ALUMNI scholars for up to 1 day] 
  2. Complete the VPCAT GEFRO Reservation Form
  3. Email the reservation form the VPCAT Research Manager, Ms. Erin Wachs, and the department pre-award staff by the provided deadline. Ms. Wachs will send you a confirmation email with further instructions. 

The Result

The outcomes of a VPCAT Grant Editing and/or Formatting Review is a stronger proposal that:

  1. Incorporates thorough and impartial feedback.
  2. Effectively presents content in a well-formatted and organized fashion.
  3. Meets the agency’s criteria and mission.
