Fundamentals of Management (Monthly in 2026)

Monthly in 2026, the Office for Faculty will be conducting training on foundational topics in organizational management. The objective of the workshop series is to provide participants with the necessary foundational knowledge to manage teams and organizations. Details and registration can be found at this link. Emerging Leaders Academy (2025/26)

The Emerging Leaders Academy is a program for faculty who are contemplating leadership or who are new to a leadership role. It kicks off in November with Exploration of Leadership workshop and welcoming dinner. A 2-day retreat at the Natural History Museum in February introduces participants to topics related to leadership and communication styles and practical skills for academic leadership and matches them with leader-mentors for shadowing experiences and guidance. Nine follow-up workshops in the fall complete the requirements for the academy. For more information contact: kathy.robertson@hsc.utah.edu 

Women’s Leadership Day (February 24, 2026 & Sep 16, 2026)

Twice per year, the Office for Faculty sponsors a full-day gathering to explore a theme in leadership. This also provides an opportunity for networking and connection. For the current topics and registration please use this link. For more information, contact amelia.hopkins@hsc.utah.edu 

Advanced Communication (March 10 - 11, 2026)

Communication skills such as giving feedback, influencing others, and making presentations are often crucial to our success. Although we have spent years in technical training for our profession, few of us have had proper communication training. This two-day workshop will cover core communication skills that professionals should be proficient in. Topics include: giving feedback, difficult conversations, public speaking, emails, coaching, writing for clarity. Details and registration can be found at this link. Orientation Retreat for New Division Chiefs and Department Chairs (April 15 - 17, 2026)

This two-day retreat is specially designed to kick-start your success in your new leadership role. Interactive sessions introduce you to such topics as: Understanding Your Leadership Style; Crucial Conversations and Creating a Culture of Civility; Mentorship of Faculty and Trainees; Finance 101 and Setting Unit Goals and Strategic Planning. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to network with peers and health sciences deans in the beautiful setting of Deer Valley Ski Resort.

The Relational Leader (October 21 - 23, 2026)

This three-day off-site retreat at Snowbird Ski Resort is for leaders who are serious about developing their skills in relational leadership. More details will follow. For more information, contact: tony.tsai@hsc.utah.edu
