Candidate Qualities

Candidates should be currently enrolled in or have recently completed an accredited graduate and/or professional degree program and should exhibit the following qualities:

  • Clearly defined interest in strategy and willingness to hone strategic thinking
  • Demonstrated academic excellence
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple successful projects and meet deadlines
  • Possess self-motivation, initiative, teamwork skill, and emotional intelligence
  • Interest in quantitative modeling, finance, management, and operations of academic medical centers

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with programming or analytic software, such as Stata, R, Python, etc.
  • Intellectual creativity and rigor
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a large, highly complex medical center
  • Engagement management experience

Required Application Materials

Materials should be submitted via the online NAFCAS application portal. Applicants should prepare the following application materials:

  • Resume
  • Cover letter specific to the Health Sciences Administrative Fellowship
  • Personal statement of interest in pursuing an Administrative Fellowship at University of Utah Health (one-page limit)
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least one from a current or past employer)
  • Official graduate school transcript from an accredited program

Application Submission Dates

The application deadline is Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019.

Timeline

2019

  • June–October: Applications accepted (deadline October 2nd, 2019)
  • October–November: Phone interviews and final on-site interviews
  • November 13th: Official acceptance date. The selected candidate will have until this date to accept, reject, or request an extension on the fellowship offer.

2020

  • June/July: Start of administrative fellowship

Selection Process

A selection committee representing health care leaders from across U of U Health reviews all administrative fellowship applications. Once applications are reviewed, the selection committee selects a number of applicants for phone interviews.

Of those candidates, the most qualified will be invited for on-site interviews in late October or early November to meet with U of U Health's executive leadership team.

The final selection and offer will be extended after the on-site interview no later than Wednesday, November 13, 2019. One individual is selected as the 2020–2021 U of U Health Sciences Administrative Fellow.
