The Office for Health Sciences Workforce Excellence invites you to join us in honoring and supporting our veterans and military-connected community during Veterans Health Week, taking place from October 21-25. This week is dedicated to raising awareness about the unique health needs of our veterans and military-connected individuals.

Together, let's celebrate the service and sacrifice of our veterans and military-connected community, ensuring they receive the care and access to resources they deserve. Your participation will help us honor those who have given so much and continue to support them in meaningful ways.

Town Hall

Join us for a town hall with U of U Health leaders to discuss the work being done to support mental health for veterans and other military connected folks.

The Military Learner: Managing the adjustment from uniform to cap & gown

October 22 · 12 p.m. · Hybrid (Gould Auditorium & Virtual)

The Military Learner event is about managing the adjustment from uniform to cap & gown, identifying and overcoming physical, mental, and transitional challenges, and celebrating successes! Join us for an introduction to military and veteran learners, the obstacles they face when transitioning to an Institution of Higher Learning environment, identifying obstacles to their learning, understanding available resources and support, and helping them to succeed and graduate.

Join us and spend some time getting to know one of your U of U colleagues who served for nearly three decades in the U.S. Army and learn a bit about his unique experiences and thoughts on serving in the armed forces and beyond.

Who is considered a military-connected community member? 

Military-connected community members are:

  • Current reservists
  • Active-duty members
  • Retirees
  • Veterans
  • National Guard members
  • ROTC students
  • Spouses, children, parents, and grandparents of those who serve or have served

Our events will touch on:

  • Pre-Active-Duty Health Care: Insights into essential health care preparations before beginning active duty
  • Pre-Deployment Health Care and Preparation: Important health care considerations and preparations before deployment
  • Post-Active-Duty Health Care: Essential health care preparations for concluding service
  • Post-Deployment Health Care: Key health care considerations after returning from deployment
  • Family Resources: Information on options and resources available to family members of those who serve or have served
  • Post-discharge Resources: Resources available not only for military members but also for their family members
