University of Utah Health Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (UHEDI) is excited to announce the addition of Chris Harris (he/him) as a new member of our team.
Chris joins UHEDI from the School of Medicine Office of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (SOM OHEDI) where he worked with the community outreach initiatives for eleven years.
As the Community Engagement Program Manager for SOM OHEDI, Chris’ primary responsibilities included engaging underrepresented and historically marginalized populations in medicine and inspiring them to pursue higher education and careers within health sciences. Through an innovative and interactive approach, Chris created and managed multiple K-12 educational programs designed to take students from early elementary classrooms to undergraduate education and combined these programs with the support of local and rural communities through public service partnerships and community events.
He worked collaboratively building and maintaining associations and partnerships statewide with other universities, school districts, local and national organizations, and leaders through interactive group presentations, platform discussions, and one-on-one meetings. In the most recent academic year alone, Chris logged 6,000 miles of travel across the State of Utah to visit over forty schools and community centers.
As we continue our mission at University of Utah Health to create an inclusive climate and address health and education inequities, we are excited to expand our team to bring Chris on board. We invite you to reach out and welcome him to the UHEDI network of partners and collaborators.
