Overspending but Satisfied

Perceptions of Cost

More than 80 percent of each group agreed that the overall cost of health care is too high. Yet, most patients (67 percent) and employers (72 percent) were at least somewhat satisfied with their own costs. Physicians, however, were the opposite: Only 37 percent expressed satisfaction with the price their patients pay for health services. Although in other parts of the survey, the majority of physicians prioritized quality and service over cost, this, along with several other survey findings, highlights that physicians are sensitive and dissatisfied with the cost of health care.
