Message From Bob S. Carter, MD, PhD

Bob S. Carter, MD, PhD

As the University of Utah celebrates its 175th anniversary, it’s my honor to join this vibrant campus community. Throughout its history, the U has been an incubator for new ideas and medical breakthroughs—fueled by an infectious collaborative energy.

This unique culture of inquiry and multidisciplinary discovery continues to bring some of the world’s brightest minds to Utah. I’m thrilled to be a part of the next exciting chapter in our history.

This is a critical moment, or “inflection point,” for Utah’s flagship institution. Our campus community and academic health system are working together to implement a new five-year strategic plan. This is an opportunity to execute on a unifying vision and align our work across missions.

U of U Health has a critical role to play. Our work can accelerate the institutional aim to become a top public university with unsurpassed societal impact. My goal is to ensure a sustainable path forward so we can thrive in all areas of our health missions.

As universities and academic health systems navigate proposed changes to federal and state levels of support, we will need to develop creative solutions. Fortunately, U of U Health has demonstrated persistence in tackling tough problems with resilience and collegiality.

This gives me optimism for the future as we work together to meet the needs of our state and region. Growing sustainably will make us stronger and more resilient, fortifying our commitment to improving life for people in Utah, the nation, and the world.
