DELPHI Sponsored Workshops

The DELPHI Initiative offers multiple training opportunities throughout the year. To date, we have offered workshops on Unix, Git, Python, and R.

Please see our upcoming workshops below!

These courses are open to all faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students.  Please make sure to register ahead of time using the links below. There is a unique link for each course, so if interested in attending multiple courses you will need to click each individual course link. Please also note, all courses are being held in-person and participants must bring a laptop to all courses.

Upcoming DELPHI Data Science Workshops

Practical Skills for Omics Research Using Common Fund Data Ecosystem (CFDE) Data and Resources Workshop

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 27 & Friday, August 28

Location: On campus – exact location TBD

Overview: The two-day workshop is designed to provide hands-on training and foundational knowledge on accessing, integrating, and analyzing varying types of omics data (e.g. genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics) within the CFDE ecosystem. The workshop aims to support students, trainees, and researchers in developing practical technical skills while increasing awareness of CFDE resources, tools, and best practices for FAIR data use. Learn more about the Common Fund Data Ecosystem (CFDE) here.

Instructors: CFDE Training Center Instructors

Cost: FREE (lunch, coffee, snacks, and refreshments will be provided both days). Thank you very much to the generous contribution from the CFDE Training Center, which allows us to host this workshop for free.

Behind the AI Curtain: Literacy, Workflows, and Responsible Use Workshop

Time: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1 AND 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Monday, September 28

Location: HELIX

Instructors: Seneca Moore, PhD, RN (Nursing) and Jens Kristian(JK) Schou, PhD (RAI)

Overview:

  • Day 1: Join us for a hands-on workshop designed for learners who want to use AI with greater confidence, skill, and responsibility. We will begin by Seneca taking us “behind the curtain” of generative AI, building a practical foundation for understanding what these tools can do, where they can go wrong, and how deepening our AI literacy helps us become more discerning users and better human decision-makers. In the second half, JK will lead an applied deep dive into how to integrate AI-supported workflows, including prompting strategies and NotebookLM.
  • Day 2: We will focus on structured collaborative exploration of your experiences and takeaways from using the tools and workflows introduced on day 1. Through guided discussion and collaborative reflection, we will explore what worked, what felt challenging, what raised questions, and how participants might adapt AI-supported workflows from each other to their own professional roles.

Audience: The primary target audience of this workshop is AI beginner to intermediate users, while experienced users can expect to sharpen their practice.

Cost: Registration costs $60/person (to be paid via chartfield or credit card). Please note that need-based scholarships are available. If you'd like to be considered, please indicate this in the registration form. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided both days.

DELPHI Data Science Workshops Recordings

GitHub Copilot Seminar

Missed the FREE seminar on GitHub Copilot? View the full recording here to get caught up!

AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot are transforming coding workflows and offering new ways to streamline development and learning. This seminar will provide a practical demonstration of how these tools can be used effectively, with a focus on using AI to enhance workflows in R and Python for data science. Attendees will gain hands-on insights into best practices, valuable features, and common pitfalls, as well as guidance on when these AI tools should — and should not — be used.
