DELPHI Sponsored Workshops
The DELPHI Initiative offers multiple training opportunities throughout the year. To date, we have offered workshops on Unix, Git, Python, and R.
Be sure to join DELPHI for one of our Spring 2025 Workshops. See below for a full list of courses. Space is limited in all workshops, so register today!
These courses are open to all faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students. Please make sure to register ahead of time using the links below. There is a unique link for each course, so if interested in attending multiple courses you will need to click each individual course link. Please also note, all courses are being held in-person and participants must bring a laptop to all courses.

Spring 2025 DELPHI Data Science Workshops
Introduction to Git Workshop
The DELPHI Data Science Initiative is partnering with Marriott Library staff to host an Introduction to Git workshop from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM on Wednesday, April 9. This is an IN-PERSON event to be held in Marriott Library Suite 2751 (Digital Matters Space). This workshop will be taught by Madison Golden, Assistant Research Data Management Librarian, and is open to ALL faculty, postdocs, staff, and students.
Registration costs $30/person (to be paid through UMarketplace via chartfield or credit card). To reserve your spot, please complete this registration form.
This introductory Git workshop will teach participants how to use Git and GitHub for sharing work and version control. There are no prerequisites or prior knowledge required for this course. Git is applicable to a wide range of fields and is especially helpful for those performing analysis or coding collaboratively. Git is also useful for data organization and management, as well as sharing work and participating in open science.

Introduction to Tableau Workshop
The DELPHI Data Science Initiative is partnering with Marriott Library staff to host a two-day Introduction to Tableau Workshop from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9. This is an IN-PERSON event to be held in Marriott Library Suite 2751 (Digital Matters Space). This course will be taught by Dr. Kaylee Alexander, Research Data Librarian, and is open to ALL faculty and students.
Registration costs $60/person (to be paid through UMarketplace via chartfield or credit card). A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. To reserve your spot, please complete this registration form.
Please note this is an interactive workshop using Tableau. Participants are required to bring a laptop with Tableau Desktop installed. Students and faculty can register for a free Tableau license, but please note that faculty licenses may take a few days to be approved. GitHub Copilot Seminar
DELPHI is hosting a FREE seminar on GitHub Copilot from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM on Monday, May 12. This is a live virtual event to be held on Zoom. The meeting invitation and link will be sent following registration. This seminar will be led by Dr. Rebecca Barter and is open to ALL UofU faculty, postdocs, grad students, and staff.
AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot are transforming coding workflows and offering new ways to streamline development and learning. This seminar will provide a practical demonstration of how these tools can be used effectively, with a focus on using AI to enhance workflows in R and Python for data science. Attendees will gain hands-on insights into best practices, valuable features, and common pitfalls, as well as guidance on when these AI tools should — and should not — be used.
