CLIP: Clinical Learning and Immersion Program

CLINICAL LEARNING AND IMMERSION PROGRAM
(CLIP)

The Center for Medical Innovation’s Clinical Learning & Immersion Program (CLIP) allows external organizations in the medical device manufacturing and life sciences industries to directly observe specific clinical procedures and conduct interviews with health care professionals at University of Utah Health.

Program benefits include:

  • Observe specific procedures relevant to your products and programs
  • See devices in use and personnel work-flow in real-time
  • Get first-person feedback from clinicians performing the procedure
  • Guided experience through hospital setting

CMI's Unique Legal Structure

The Center for Medical Innovation (CMI) is a separate business unit from University of Utah Health System, focused on the identification and development of next-generation medical technologies. CLIP participants can leverage CMI’s unique position as an interdisciplinary department at the University of Utah and its advisory network of department leaders and care providers.

Program Fees

Each CLIP agreement will be customized as part of the Statement of Work (SOW) and will have varying associated costs. Factors which will contribute to the final CLIP agreement cost will include:

  • Total number of observational days
  • Total number of company representatives participating
  • Total number and type of clinical provider interviews conducted

These factors do not include the requisite administrative fees to be collected by CMI and or TLO.

Note: No funds collected as part of CLIP agreements will be distributed to care providers; any funds allocated to the "host" department(s) involved in observation will be credited for future innovation efforts.

For more specific pricing information, please contact Robert Falconer, CMI Program Fellow.

Getting started with CMI's Clinical Learning & Immersion Program

  1. Contact Robert Falconer at CMI to let us know you're interested in participating in CLIP
  2. Engage with CMI and the Technology Licensing Office (TLO) at the University of Utah to develop a confidential disclosure agreement (CDA) and discuss your specific observational needs
  3. In cooperation with CMI & TLO, develop and sign a Statement of Work (SOW) to finalize the scope of your program. This may include the number and type of procedures being observed, who you'd like to interview during your observation days, and how many representatives from your company will be present.
  4. Schedule observations day(s) for your CLIP agreement.
