About Me
Jared was born and raised in rainy Seattle, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2019 with a degree in microbiology. Jared began his research career in high school at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where he studied immune reconstitution in animals. He continued research throughout his undergraduate studies by investigating pathways that regulate aging. Upon graduating, Jared worked as a research scientist for Dr. Stephen Salipante, in which he implemented next-generation DNA sequencing technologies to develop treatment strategies against various pathogenic bacteria. As a graduate student in the Holmen lab, Jared is excited to improve the outcomes of cancer therapies by investigating the mechanisms of tumor development, progression, and resistance. Outside the lab, Jared enjoys hiking, taking long walks in parks, exploring coffee shops, and trying different cuisines.
