About Me
Mona was born and raised in Germany. She was awarded a PhD in 2014 for research conducted at Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow, where she studied the role of FGFR3 mutations in bladder cancer. Mona joined the McMahon Lab at HCI as a postdoctoral fellow in 2016 initially investigating the role of mutationally-activated RAC1(P29S) in melanoma. She also studied autophagy signaling in melanoma and pancreatic cancer in order to identify therapeutic strategies co-targeting autophagy and oncogenic signaling. Most recently, she has been investigating novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of NRAS-driven melanoma using direct inhibition of NRAS.GTP. In her free time, Mona enjoys spending time in the great outdoors hiking and skiing, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and their dog, Ruby.
