Who can request collaboration from the CB Shared Resource?

Researchers doing cancer-related research at the University of Utah can request collaboration. We give priority to HCI investigators.

How much time do I need to allow?

CB members need time to work effectively with you. Here are the lead times we need for various types of projects. More complex projects may require more time.

  • Single-project grant application (e.g. R01, R21, etc.): 2–3 months
  • Multi-project grant application (e.g. P01, U01, SPORE, etc.): 4–6 months
  • Investigator initiated trials (IITs): 1–2 months
  • IRB submission or study design for an internally funded study: 4–6 weeks
  • Data analysis for abstract or internal purposes: 4–6 weeks
  • Data analysis for manuscript: 6–8 weeks

How do I submit a request for collaboration with the CB Shared Resource?

Use this request form. Be sure to indicate that this is a cancer-related project. You can request a specific CB staff member in the form.

What do I need for the initial consultation?

Send the following information to your consultant before your first meeting. You can also bring it with you to the first meeting.

  • Any information, including preliminary data, to explain your project and the science that motivates it
  • Specific research aims where applicable
  • Supporting documentation or reference publications

Cost

Please submit a Collaboration Request to schedule an initial consultation with Cancer Biostatistics Shared Resource and receive a custom cost estimate for your project. Contact us as early as possible during project development and funding application preparation to ensure adequate funds are budgeted for your project.

CB asks that investigators include the total cost services in their budgets for all grants and contracts. Rates are subject to change each fiscal year (starting July 1). We suggest budgeting a 5% annual escalation for services planned in future fiscal years.

External Investigators from HCI or other organizations should contact CB with project information and funding sources to receive a feasibility assessment and customized quote.

FTE Rates

For mid or long term projects, investigators are encouraged to include particular members from CB on their grants and pay for their time as a % effort. Contact the CB director for specific faculty and staff’s rates.

Rates for Internal Investigators

For short term projects, the recharge model is available as follows:

  • Student Level Statisticians $70/hr
  • Junior MS Level Statisticians $115/hr
  • Senior MS/Non-Faculty PhD Statisticians  $150/hr
  • Faculty Statisticians $195/hr

*Charges computed based on the average salary plus benefits of the team members providing each service, plus approximately 9% for administrative and computer costs. The rates are reviewed and approved annually.
