Career Enhancement Core
The Career Enhancement Core provides training and mentored research opportunities for early career investigators in community-engaged research to address cancer prevention in persistent poverty communities. The training includes mentoring by community engagement specialists and community members, and are supported by collaboration with the Developmental Core and Research and Methods Core.

Developmental Core
The Developmental Core identifies and maintains a collaborative research community to solicit, sponsor, and assist in the development of high-quality projects addressing cancer prevention and control in persistent poverty areas. This Core works closely with the Career Enhancement Core, Research and Methods Core, and Community Engagement Team to mentor early career faculty in generating, submitting, and executing pilot projects. These efforts will result in a community of new researchers positioned to secure independent funding to significantly impact cancer-related health inequities in persistent areas across the Mountain West and beyond.

Research Methods Core
The Research and Methods Core will support the research activities of HC2 by serving as a hub supporting common project research methods that will not only advance cancer prevention implementation science in persistent poverty areas but ensure proper application and support for novel implementation research tools. These include an implementation research logic model, an implementation outcomes common data elements tool, and novel and rigorous system for longitudinal tracking of implementation strategies and their dynamic modifications over time. The Research and Methods Core will assess the productivity and impact of HC2 and work with the Administrative Core to evaluate their progress toward achieving research and training milestones. This collaboration aims to demonstrate the real-world impact of their work, particularly concerning the Persistent Poverty Initiative.
