Research Focus

The Sumati Gupta Research Program aims to personalize urothelial cancer treatment through targeted therapeutic approaches. Recognizing the variability in disease behavior and treatment tolerance, our research focuses on:

Urothelial Cancer Susceptibility

Understanding its role in tumor biology.

Treatment Resistance

Identifying mechanisms and strategies to overcome them.

Geriatric Oncology

Enhancing the quality of care for older adults with bladder cancer.

Lab Focus

  • Bladder Cancer Susceptibility
  • Therapeutic Resistance
  • Geriatric Oncology

Research Methods and Funding

The Gupta lab utilizes molecular datasets of tumors and conducts studies on bladder cancer cell lines and tumors to develop the most effective personalized treatment approaches. Our research is funded by the BLRD VA merit award.

Additionally, Dr. Gupta conducts clinical trials for patients with bladder cancer. For more information, you can visit the HCI clinical trials.

Dr. Gupta has integrated geriatric care principles into the treatment of older adults with bladder cancer and established the Geriatric Oncology Assessment and Plan (GOAL) clinic to help older adults achieve their treatment goals. This work is supported by funding from the NCCN.
