Scholarships

WiHMS and Office of Health Equity and Inclusion support up to three scholarships per University of Utah Leaadership Seminar session (Leadership Seminar I, II, III). This program is interactive and experiential, based on self-assessments that participants will take prior to the seminar. Participants will focus on fundamentals for high performing leaders, managing conflict, managing difficult negotiations and communicating in an effectice and engaging manner. Participants will reflect on their personal leadership style and how different leadership styles can successfully interact with other styles. Attendees who receive the WiHMS scholarships share their insights into leadership in the "Lessons Learned" series.

You are able to register for these Seminars with and without scholarship support from WiHMS. If you are not awarded a scholarship, we recommend you seek support from your home department. Please note that registration for these seminars closes two weeks prior to the session start date.

Please submit your CV and a brief description (300 words or less) of your interest in the desired leadership development seminar, your leadership experiences and any informal or formal leadership development activities to healthequity@hsc.utah.edu by the noted deadlines. PDF format preferred.

 

Leadership I: Foundations of Leadership

The program is interactive and experiential, based on self-assessments that participants will take prior to the seminar.  Participants will focus on fundamentals for high performing leaders, managing conflict, managing difficult negotiations and communicating in an effective and engaging manner. Participants will reflect on their personal leadership style and how different leadership styles can successfully interact with other styles.

Who Should Attend? Health Sciences faculty interested in leadership roles should attend this seminar to enhance their skills and to connect with colleagues.

Leadership II: Applied Techniques and Practices

The program is interactive and experiential, and is based on self-assessments that participants will take prior to the seminar.  Participants will focus on negotiation, conflict navigation, creating and sustaining inclusive environments, leading work and people, and leading and managing change. Participants will reflect on their personal leadership style and how different leadership styles can successfully interact with other styles. 

Who Should Attend?  Health Sciences Faculty who have attended the Leadership I: Foundations of Leadership Seminar and /or who are currently in leadership roles.

Leadership III: Leading Through and Across Organization Layers

Organization realities require us all, at times, to work across functional silos, influence others and manage in multiple direction to get things done. Influencing up, down and across organization layers is essential to acquiring resources and support for projects and goals. Managing multiple agendas and working with others who either don’t report to you or who are in different locations, is not without challenges.

Who Should Attend? Health Sciences Faculty who have attended the Leadership I and Leadership II and/or who are currently in leadership roles.
