PRR - In Vivo Tumor Studies and Biomarker Identification

The PRR houses a centralized resource for animal models. Our staff has expertise in experimental design and technical skills. We have completed several types of projects, including tumor monitoring of knockdown cell lines vs. wild type and immune-based projects. Our typical tumor-monitoring pipeline includes these stages:

  • Tumor transplantation in an orthotopic or subcutaneous site
    • Mammary fat pad and intratibial transplantation sites. Ask about additional orthotopic sites.
    • Includes Matrigel or hormone pellets, when appropriate
  • Tumor growth measurements
    • Tumors (by caliper or bioluminescence) and body weight measured twice weekly
  • Necropsy to harvest tumor tissue and metastatic organs for histology and RNA/DNA analysis
    • Collected based on experimental design
    • Includes flash-freezing and paraffin-embedded tissue

Additionally, we can provide several imaging techniques for quantifying tumor progression and metastasis:

  • Bioluminescent imaging
  • Fluorescence imaging
  • CT scans of bone and lung
  • Brain MRI

We also work in close collaboration with the Center for Quantitative Cancer Imaging and can provide real-time scans:

  • Glucose metabolism
  • Bone mineralization
  • Cell proliferation
  • Hypoxia
  • Angiogenesis
  • Perfusion

We can help in both consultation and executing all aspects of your in vivo experiments. We provide you with necropsy tissue, survival curves, and growth data--everything you need to generate a figure for publication in a paper or grant.
