Fluchel’s research includes studies designed to help physicians better understand the histiocytic disorders of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). His study utilizing the Utah Population Database to identify familial associations in LCH is funded by a grant from the Histiocytosis Association of America.

His research is supported by a Hyundai Hope on Wheels Childhood Cancer Research Grant.

Examples of Current Studies

The Burden of Care in Pediatric Histiocytic Disorders (Including Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis and Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis)

The purpose of this research study is to assess the factors that contribute to the burden that treatment for histiocytosis (LCH/HLH) places on childhood patients and their families. We are interested in measuring how distance from the hospital may impact this burden.

Understanding Immune Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) from the Patient and Family Perspective

The purpose of this research study is to assess the factors that contribute to the burden that treatment for Immune Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) places on childhood patients and their families.  We are interesting in measuring how distance from the hospital may impact this burden.

The Use of Tablet Computers to Improve Care Delivery to Pediatric Oncology Patients

The purpose of this research study is to determine the feasibility of the use of tablet computers to improve the delivery of care to childhood cancer patients through a 6 month long pilot study.
