My project is focused on understanding molecular mechanisms that govern mammary gland development. Specifically, I am interested in the role of desmosomes during mammary branching morphogenesis and how these adhesion complexes are regulated.
The goal of my project is to establish a novel mouse model that can target gene expression to distinct mammary epithelial cell lineages. I am using this model to study breast cancer heterogeneity and mammary gland development in a cell lineage restricted context.
My work has produced a novel mouse model that recapitulates diverse breast cancer histologies and generates both Luminal and Basal tumor subtypes. I am now focused on using this model to study the cell of origin and new therapeutics for the rare lipid rich breast tumor.
The goal of my project is to identify tumor-specific biological pathways that might be exploited as therapeutic targets in breast cancer. We hope to accomplish this goal by using novel small molecules to better understand the molecular mechanisms involved in tumor growth.
