The Cancer Biology and Microenvironment (CBM) Program works to decipher cellular mechanisms of cancer biology, through transdisciplinary research, providing a foundation for new approaches to clinical issues.

The program’s research focuses on the mechanisms by which cancer cells become transformed and/or progress to the metastatic malignant state.

CBM research is centered around the following three Specific Aims:

  1. To understand cellular mechanisms underlying tumor development
  2. To uncover mechanisms and pathways mediating tumor evolution and metastasis
  3. To elucidate the complex interactions among tumor cells, immune cells, and their microenvironment
