Recognize Responsible AI Excellence at the U: Nominate Faculty and Scholars for the Inaugural One-U RAI Awards

Description: The University of Utah One-U Responsible Artificial Intelligence Initiative (One-U RAI) is accepting nominations for its inaugural awards program honoring individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing responsible AI. The campus community is invited to submit nominations across all disciplines for two open awards—one for faculty members and another for grad students or postdocs. Reminder: High Tech West 2027-2028

Description: The Office of the Vice President for Research invites you to submit a proposal for the2026-2027 High Tech West pitch competition to be held on Thursday, February 25th, 2027! High Tech West is again being offered to the University of Utah translational research community as a pitch event that unites leading research experts, industry partners, and legislative representatives to explore groundbreaking technologies, innovative ideas, and holistic solutions to tackle pressing national security challenges confronting our democracy. As the university’s largest source of intramural research funding supporting current national security research priorities, High Tech West 2027 hopes to attract researchers contributing to key national security research projects supporting the 2026 DOW Critical Technology Areas and the FY27 White House R&D Budgetary Priorities. High Tech West 2027 seeks interdisciplinary research teams from across campus who have unique solutions to pressing national security challenges. This year, High Tech West will focus on earlier, lower Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), primarily innovation at the TRL 1-3 level supporting these two opportunity tracks: Track 1) Engineering, Space & Defense Systems, & Track 2) Health, Biotechnology & Military Medicine.

NSF State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs: Expanding Access to Compute for Scientific Discovery (AI Infrastructure Hubs)

Description: This program aims to expand access to the compute required for AI-enabled scientific discovery and to transform the research, education, and training opportunities offered by institutions of higher education. AI Infrastructure Hubs will connect researchers to new compute infrastructure that leverages contributions from state governments, research institutions, industry, and philanthropy, accelerating AI-enabled discovery across science and engineering and developing a skilled technical workforce for AI use in the scientific enterprise. NIH Released Five PRIMED-AI RFAs
Deadlines: October 2 – October 19, 2026 (varies by RFA)
Description: The goal of these companion opportunities is to establish the Precision Medicine with AI: Integrating Imaging with Multimodal Data (PRIMED-AI) Program to support the development of innovative, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable multimodal AI-based clinical decision support (CDS) tools. PRIMED-AI CDS tools are based on the integration of clinical imaging with other types of multimodal health data to enhance care for patients with a wide range of health conditions.
NSF Unlocking Dataset Value for AI-Enabled Scientific Discovery (AI Datasets)
Application Deadline: November 4, 2026
Award: The program anticipates 10 to 20 Impact awards of up to $2,000,000. In addition, the program also anticipates 5 to 10 Flagship awards of up $5M and 10 to 20 Planning grants up to $200,000.
Description: This program will advance scientific community datasets to enable scientific discovery and innovation using artificial intelligence (AI) and other methods. Its goal is to increase the value that can be derived from existing scientific datasets by leveraging novel methods and AI. This will unlock new AI-driven insights. It can enable interdisciplinary research. It also enables investigations outside of the original motivation for data collection and analysis. The program seeks to 1) apply AI-based capabilities to feature extraction and metadata generation, and the integration of multiple datasets, 2) Develop robust data pipelines necessary for automated analysis of existing datasets and similar use-cases by AI tools and systems, and 3) Augment and/or harmonize existing datasets to better enable use by AI data pipelines and automated analysis.
UChicago Reproducibility Ambassador (RepAmb) PhD Student Travel Grants
Award: $1,000 travel grant to present at a conference

Description: Have your eye on a conference taking place this year, but need some sponsorship to get there? Have you conducted research or packaged experiments on Chameleon and Trovi? Want an experience that will provide valuable insights on how you can make your research more reproducible and effective?
We’re excited to announce that we still have limited spots available for our Reproducibility Ambassador (RepAmb) program.
Submit an interest form or email Marc Richardson (mtrichardson@uchicago.edu) and Rani Irawan (raniayu@uchicago.edu) with the Subject: “RepAmb: Application Inquiry”. If you are selected, you’ll receive a travel grant through reimbursement (travel + registration fees) to attend a conference of your choosing.
Reproducibility Ambassadors will
- Package two experiments of their choice from their selected conference (published in recent years),
- Upload two short videos (2-3 mins) showcasing each artifact on YouTube,
- Attend the selected conference and organize a small event on reproducibility (birds of a feather, coffee chat, poster session, etc., depending on the conference organization).
Ambassadors are encouraged to engage generally with the community on common reproducibility challenges throughout the conference. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Funds are limited. Apply ASAP to ensure a spot.
