Thank you to all who joined us on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at the DMRC 2025 Rising Stars at the University of Utah in partnership with the Mountain West Prevention Research Center (MW-PRC). This was a multi-departmental effort, aligned with the University of Utah's synergistic approach to amplify voices and foster connections. The CMH supports and unifies scholars who are committed to careers in metabolic health across the translational spectrum.
We're pleased to share we had over 100 people in attendance!

Please note there is no general parking for this event. We recommend all parking in their usual parking spot on University of Utah campus. If you need guest parking, there are pay-by-hour spots in the South Medical Garage (5 S 2030 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84112). No reimbursements will be given for parking.

Announcing our 2025 DMRC Fall Retreat is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2025 in the S.J. Quinney College of Law. This all-day event is for all DMRC community members (faculty, trainees, and staff) and includes both internal and external speakers, as well as a breakout session and poster session. We will also be celebrating the launch of the Center for Metabolic Health, marking an exciting milestone for our community.
Registration for this event closed promptly on September 22. While on-site registration is available at the event, please note lunch is not guaranteed for on-site registrations.

PARKING INFORMATION
The S.J. Quinney College of Law is located at 383 South University Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84112. Signs will clearly direct you from the entrance to the elevators which will take you to the 6th floor. Once on the 6th floor, signs will direct you to the Moot Courtroom.
Parking for the retreat is in the Law School lot, directly north of the building. Parking is noted with a P, with the College of Law building marked in red here. Please note the entire lot is reserved FREE for our use, with the exception of all specially marked stalls (handicapped, reserved, charging stalls).
Please note this parking moratorium allows you to park in the agreed upon lot without a permit, but it does not guarantee parking will be available. We encourage all to plan ahead and get to the venue early for parking. Parking along red curbs, fire hydrants, maintenance stalls, permanent reserved stalls, no parking areas, crosswalks, driveways, and in front of dumpster's is prohibited 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These areas will still be enforced during a moratorium.
We encourage early arrival to guarantee parking is available. We also encourage all who are able to take TRAX to the event, as parking might fill up. If using TRAX, take the “University” red line to the Stadium stop and walk a half block north.

2024 Diabetes and Metabolism Research Retreat
The Utah Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center community held their 2024 Symposium on Wednesday, September 11. This event had external keynote addresses from Kivanç Birsoy, PhD and Michael Harris, PhD, internal research presentations, trainee lightning talks, and a poster session.

This event featured external keynote addresses from Matthew O’Brien, MD, MSc and Kathryn E. Wellen, PhD, internal research presentations, trainee lightning talks, and a poster session.

The Seminars in Metabolism is a weekly lecture series that hosts external speakers, research in progress seminars, and student journal club. This seminar is on Thursdays at 4pm via zoom.

Health Behaviors Seminar Series (HBSS)
The Health Behaviors Seminar Series is designed to foster interdepartmental collaboration and engagement in research related to health behaviors, especially as it relates to diabetes and obesity prevention and management. The series includes a monthly seminar. The seminar is held the 2nd Thursday of each month at 12pm.
Sponsored by the UDMRC and the Driving Out Diabetes, a Larry H. Miller Family Wellness Initiative, this monthly series features both internal and external speakers and is open to all faculty, trainees, and staff across the University of Utah to attend.

Metabolism Research in Progress (RIPs) Meeting
