Your Voices: The Key To A Better Tomorrow

Some say you can never over-communicate. In this day and age, I am not sure I agree. We benefit from much useful online information—from how to repair a bike tire to how to prepare the perfect soufflé. Yet this information, easily accessible through technological advances, comes at a price. Whether that price is emails, tweets, online news stories, or those bouncy-bubbly banner ads designed to distract, it does not take much to feel over-communicated with, or more accurately, over-communicated “at.” And so I ask:
How can we cut through the clutter and truly communicate with one another?
The need to communicate effectively is more important now than ever. I have the privilege of leading a major health sciences center in a time of rapid change on all fronts: research, education, health care, technology, finance, media, and so on. Across the board, every dimension of our system is changing. As leaders we keep our eyes on the horizon to anticipate change, prepare the organization to respond successfully and lead the charge. To navigate through the turbulent waters ahead we need all hands on deck.
Our best ideas for a successful future come from the exchange of opinions across this entire enterprise. To do that, we need to be able to hear your voices and to engage in effective dialogues.
Over the past year, thanks to our terrific team in public relations and communications, you may have seen new developments on our website, new blogs from the health sciences and a new Intercomm roll out. Our team is on facebook, twitter, instagram, YouTube and other social networks. And yes, even I tweet (@vivianleemd). We want to communicate effectively, and we need to hear your thoughts and ideas. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be hosting three health sciences-wide town hall events. I welcome you to come or tune in online and join in the dialogue, with whatever means of communication you find most effective.
